So...we took a 2-day boat ride to Luang Prabang in Laos. Yes, 2 days. On wooden planks. With drunk hippies. But it was an experience.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Beat our S. African friends at "how many countries can you name?" They thought they'd smoke us cause we're Americans but we showed them. The game then turned into a boat-wide affair and so far we're up to 180.
- When some boat passangers found out we don't drink/smoke and all gathered around to see what was wrong with us-- "So what do you DO all day?"
- 5 minutes later when a kid lit his own pants on fire and reminded us why we don't.
LOWLIGHTS:
- Going out with our S. African friends at night (Guy and Julian). While they showered, shaved, and made themselves smell good, we freshened up with some bug spray and Purell.
-Being saranaded at a restaurant by a half-there Laotian man while we sipped on hot choc made of Ovaltine and sweetened-condensed milk.
- Drifting off to sleep to the sound of crinkling wrappers and scratching. "Blair, is that you?" "No, is that you?" "No...." We never found the culprit but imagine him as small and furry.
